Frequently Asked Questions

I found an area in Juneau with trash dumped illegally. Who do I contact to get it cleaned up?
With any question regarding illegal dumping, it is best to start by contacting the Community Services Unit of the Juneau Police Department (NOT 911). They can be reached via phone or email.

Contact one of the Community Service Officers (CSO). Be prepared to provide details of the dumping: location (including GPS info if available), description of what was dumped, and photos. JPD will use all of this information to locate the debris and work toward getting it cleaned up.

I want to pick up trash while out on my walks. Can you provide me with bags?
Unfortunately, the yellow/green bags we use are bags that are donated from Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling and are specifically designated for use in a coordinated cleanup effort that Litter Free manages (such as the Juneau Community Cleanup or the Youth Litter Patrol).

I want to do my own cleanup. Will Litter Free pay for my landfill fee?
Unfortunately, we cannot pay for landfill fees outside of our own cleanups.

I want to do a cleanup on private property. Will Litter Free help?
We facilitate trash pick up on public lands only, not any private property. If the property is open to the public, yet still privately owned, it is still considered private property. Thank you for your understanding.

I have community service hours to fill. Can I do this through Litter Free?
Litter Free Inc. does not participate in the community work service program as we do not have staff available to supervise the work.
